COD2024 02 01The 2024 American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Congress of Delegates (COD), was held in Phoenix September 23-25 at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix.

Representing the AAFP’s 77th Congress of Delegates (COD) meeting include:

  • James Taylor, MD, FAAFP, of Zachary, LA - LAFP Delegate
  • Vincent Shaw, MD, FAAFP, of Baton Rouge, LA - LAFP Delegate
  • Lisa Casey, MD, of New Orleans, LA - LAFP Alternate Delegate

Joining the LAFP delegation was Ragan LeBlanc, EVP.

Congratulations to the chapters of winning candidates. The following election results were announced:

New President
Jen Brull, MD, FAAFP, of Fort Collins, Colorado, who was voted president-elect last year during COD in Chicago, was installed as Academy president. She practiced in rural Kansas for two decades and is now vice president of clinical engagement for Aledade, a company that partners with independent primary care physicians to succeed in value-based care. Brull has served the Academy as convener of the AAFP Working Group on Rural Health and as a commission chair, delegate and director.
  • President-Elect: Sarah Nosal, MD, FAAFP, of New York, New York
  • Speaker of the Congress:  Russell Kohl, MD, FAAFP, of Stilwell, Kansas
  • Vice Speaker: Daron Gersch, MD, FAAFP, of Avon, Minnesota
  • Director: Shannon Dowler, MD, CPE, FAAFP, of Marshall, North Carolina
  • Director: Elisabeth Fowlie Mock, MD, MPH, FAAFP, of Bangor, Maine
  • Director: Kathleen Mueller, MD, FAAFP, of Windsor, Connecticut
  • New physician Board member: Cynthia Chen-Joea, DO, MPH, CPH, FAAFP, of Lakewood, California
  • Resident Board member: Aerial Petty, DO, of New York, New York
  • Student Board member: Mikala Cessac, of Columbia, Missouri

The Board includes nine directors elected in groups of three, or as otherwise needed, on a rotating basis. Directors sit as members of various Board subcommittees. One director is elected each year to serve as the at-large member of the Board’s executive committee. Between meetings of the COD, the Board oversees and administers the work of the Academy and development of its policies, appointing commissions, committees and other work groups necessary to assist it in fulfilling these responsibilities.
