The LAFP was excited to attend the first meeting of the Shreveport Family Medicine Interest Group of the semester. 35 students attended to learn more about Family Medicine and all that family physicians can do in their daily practice. Dr. Peter Seidenberg, MD, FAAFP, Department Chair for Family Medicine, gave an overview of family medicine and talked about how he chose family medicine as a specialty. He also talked about his various practice settings from rural Pennsylvania to academic medicine.
In addition to leaning about family medicine, Dr. Luke Baudoin, Program Director, and Dr. David Janese, MD, Associate Program Director, EM/FM Residency Program, gave an update on preparation for the upcoming Match and how to prepare for Match during each year of medical school. Dr. Ammar Husan, Clerkship Director, addressed questions from students on choosing a specialty.
The students and faculty enjoyed a luncheon provided by funding from the LAFP Foundation. LAFP staff member, Lee Ann Albert, provided an overview of membership benefits and encouraged students to join the LAFP/AAFP.
