Love headshot 1The LAFP is excited to recognize resident member, LeaAnn A. Love, MD, as our November Member of the Month. Born in New Orleans, LA and raised in Dallas, TX, by her parents Lee, Sr. and Carol Love with her two older brothers, Lee, Jr and LeDell. Dr. Love attended undergraduate at Xavier University of Louisiana, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with minors in Biology and Mathematics, all while receiving a full tuition scholarship as a first-generation college student. She graduated from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 2023. She is currently a PGY-2 resident at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program.

Initially, Dr. Love was interested in another specialty. It was during her third year of medical school that she realized Family Medicine was her true passion. She talked more about how she chose to be a family physician, “I was drawn to the core values of Family Medicine aimed at preventative, comprehensive, and continuity of care. Family Medicine offers me the flexibility to provide a vast array of services including treating acute illness, management of chronic illness, preventive health, and treating patients of all ages and backgrounds. I will also be able to tailor my practice to my preference following residency including focus in areas such as sports medicine and geriatrics.”

Dr. Love wants to build her life and practice in a purposeful way that brings her both fulfillment and joy. She stated, “I want to build lasting and genuine relationships with my patients. I also want to contribute to improving health literacy among the community. By addressing many of the health disparities seen where minorities are disproportionately affected, I can provide a positive support system in these areas as a Family Physician.”

We asked Dr. Love if she remembers her personal statement from her residency application and how does that compare to where she is currently in her career path. She stated, “There are definitely similarities. My goal was to train at a residency program that builds well-rounded physicians and treats diverse populations. The Baton Rouge General FMRP meets both of those goals.”

She continued, “I still plan to live and practice in South Louisiana. As a proud Louisiana native, I have always dreamed of completing residency and practicing in my home state. I hope to make a direct impact on the community that has supported me through the years. I am still driven by my interest in the versatility and diversity of Family Medicine.” She did say that a big difference is her plan to apply to a Sports Medicine Fellowship following residency. She stated, “I hope to integrate this specialty into my practice to further enhance my ability to support and treat patients with diverse needs.”

In addition to clinical work, Dr. Love regularly volunteers in the community, contributing her time and skills to various outreach programs as a resident physician. Her volunteer efforts reflect her commitment to service and making a tangible impact beyond the clinic.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Love enjoys a rich array of interests. She is an avid sports fan, with a particular love for college basketball and football. She also enjoys traveling, attending live music concerts, and exploring local festivals. Cooking and amateur photography are cherished hobbies that provide her with personal fulfillment.

Please help us congratulate Dr. LeaAnn Love!
