It just does not get any better.
The Rural Family Medicine Residency Program in Bogalusa, part of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) seeks a full-time family medicine faculty member at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level (clinical, non-tenure track) to join our collegial group. Our residency mission it to educate a cadre of family medicine residents primarily for underserved rural Louisiana, and then elsewhere. We offer robust full-spectrum family medicine training in our 7-7-7 program, and our graduates go on to practice in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The faculty candidate should be board certified or eligible in Family Medicine, and have a passion for teaching and mentoring our resident physicians and medical students. Participation in the inpatient service teaching is highly encouraged. Obstetrics is encouraged, but optional.
We are part of LSUHSC-NO, which offers great support to our program for resources, including faculty development and continuing medical education. Our affiliated hospital in Bogalusa is Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, an acute care hospital offering medical, intensive care, surgical and obstetrical services. It serves as a safety net hospital for Washington Parish, and our Community Medicine rotation extensively explores the culture and needs of the community to help with strategies to reduce disparities in health care. The hospital administration is very supportive of the residency.
Bogalusa (from Choctaw Bogue Lusa: Smoky or Dark Water) got its start as a company lumber town in the early 1900s. Its rapid growth earned it the nickname “Magic City”. Its current population is 10,000, and there is a wide variety of housing options available here or out in the country. Nearby Covington and Mandeville offer a wide variety of suburban amenities, and New Orleans is a reasonable drive away for big city experiences.
