Given the number of responsibilities that you juggle on a daily basis, your LAFP membership is not the first thing that pops to mind. Your LAFP membership makes a powerful statement about you. It shows your patients, staff, and community that you are committed to Family Medicine. Membership identifies you as a family physician who is serious about the profession as well as about staying informed, educated and involved. When you become an LAFP member, you not only join with physicians across Louisiana, but across the country as well.
As we prepare for the 2024 Regular Legislative Session, your membership brings political clout. Our legislative activities promote speaking with one strong voice on behalf of Family Medicine and your patients. Our legislative committee tracks state legislation that could have an impact you. Over the last few years, LAFP has increased our political presence and joined with the other medical associations to further our political influence and resources.
Our legislative committee chair, Richard Bridges, MD, stated, "We are continuing to build the LAFP's grass roots support that has allowed us to remain successful year after year. We need LAFP members to get involved and get to know their legislator."
As a member, you will receive alerts with a call to action to contact your legislator regarding pertinent upcoming legislation. You can always stay up to date on 24-7 via our Advocacy Action Center. Also, members can volunteer as the Family Physician of the Day to staff the first aid station at the Capitol.
If you have questions, contact a member of the Legislative and Advocacy Committee or contact the LAFP office at 225.923.3313.
