The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians cordially invites you to attend a CME presentation titled, “Introducing Certification 2025: A Webinar to Address ABFM’s Switch to a 5-Year Cycle" on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
To meet the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Assessment Standards for Continuing Certification updated on January 1, 2024, the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) will begin the transition to Certification 2025, the new Continuous Certification 5-Year Cycle on January 1, 2025. This webinar will provide insight into this change and what it means for family physician member-diplomates. Join Gary LeRoy, MD, FAAFP, Senior Vice President of Diplomate Experience at the ABFM as he shares more about the recent modifications in certification requirements, examination formats, and continuing medical education (CME) expectations. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how these changes impact their practice and professional development. This webinar is an invaluable opportunity to stay informed and ensure compliance with ABFM standards, ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.

About the Speaker:
On November 1st 2022, Dr. Gary LeRoy became the Senior Vice President for Diplomate Engagement of the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. LeRoy is an associate professor of Family Medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (Dayton, Ohio). He served as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Admissions for 14 years (2008-2022). Dr. LeRoy is a native Daytonian, received his undergraduate (1982) and M.D. (1988) degrees from Wright State University and completed his residency at Miami Valley Hospital (Dayton, Ohio). He completed a fellowship at Michigan State University in 1992. Dr. LeRoy’s major affiliations include serving on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dayton Levitt Pavilion, East End Community Center, WestCare Ohio, and The Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. He is also a past board chair of The Dayton Foundation, Public Health Dayton/Montgomery County, and Hospice of Dayton. He serves as the Chief Medical Consultant for the City of Dayton Schools. Dr. LeRoy is the Past-President and Board Chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is also an active member of the Ohio State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (Past President), and the Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society (Vice President).
Dr. LeRoy is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Golden Key Honor Society-Wright State University Chapter. He has been recognized as one of America’s 50 Most Positive Physicians. He has been honored as the Miami Valley Family Physician of the Year, and the National Registry of Who’s Who in America. Dr. LeRoy received the Wright State University Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award, the Dean’s Awarded to the Outstanding medical school graduate, a Certificate of Recognition by the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate, the American Association of Medical Colleges Humanism in Medicine Award, the Outstanding Volunteerism Award from Reach Out of Montgomery County, the Humanism in Medicine Award-Gem City Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Society, Dayton’s Top Ten African American Male Award, the National Council of Community and Justice Humanism Award, the American Medical Student Association Golden Apple Teaching Excellence Award, Greater Dayton African American Skyscraper Recognition, and both the Educator of the Year and Philanthropist of the Year awards from the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He is also an award-winning book author – Quotes From The Edge of Nowhere (2020).
In addition, Dr. LeRoy is a board-certified family physician, providing comprehensive medical care at Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton, a federally qualified health center. Dr LeRoy’s practice is at the East Dayton Health Center, where served as medical director from 1998-2008. He has provided health care services for the Dayton community for 30 years.
CME Accreditation
The AAFP has reviewed 2024 MONTHLY WEBINAR/GRAND ROUNDS SCHEDULE and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Terms of approval is from 01/24/2024 to 01/24/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
