On February 5, 2024, the LAFP Foundation partnered with the FMIG at LSU Health New Orleans and the Department of Family Medicine to host the third annual South Louisiana Regional Recruitment Fair and Procedural Workshops. It was a full day of promoting our family medicine residency programs and demonstrating procedures that family physicians perform in daily practice.
Students from LSU Health New Orleans and Tulane School of Medicine had the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills of the following procedures hosted by our residency programs:
- Contraceptive Techniques – Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program
- Intubation Techniques – Bogalusa Family Medicine Residency Program
- IV Techniques – Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program
- Basic Suturing Techniques – East Jefferson Family Medicine Residency Program
- Shoulder Injection Techniques – Kenner Family Medicine Residency Program
- Knee Injection Techniques – Lafayette Family Medicine Residency Program
- Musculoskeletal Ultrasound – Lake Charles Family Medicine Residency Program
- Punch Biopsy – St. Tammany Family Medicine Residency Program
DePaul Family and Social Medicine Residency Program, along with the above programs, participated in the Residency Recruitment Fair. The students enjoyed visiting with faculty and residents to learn more about each program.
The LAFP Foundation would like to personally thank Daryl Lofaso, PhD, Director of Simulation Operations, LSU Health New Orleans, and his staff for the use of the Learning Center.
The mission of the LAFP Foundation is to promote the specialty of Family Medicine to our students. Experiences, like the procedural workshops, are vital to provide students with connections to our resident members and faculty early in their careers.
