Marcus Davis headshot 01 01Marcus Davis, MD is a second-year resident at East Jefferson Family Medicine Residency Program. He is a native New Orleanian. Dr. Davis completed his undergraduate education at LSU and attended medical school at The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Following two years overseas, he completed his clinical rotations in New Orleans at Ochsner Medical Center where he developed a strong passion for family medicine.

Dr. Davis credits his grandfather as his inspiration for becoming a physician. He stated, “To some degree my maternal grandfather whom I never had the opportunity to meet. He was a family medicine physician in the small town of Marksville. He was the true definition of a "family physician." He was the cardiologist, the OB, the surgeon, etc., basically everything for his patients.”

We asked Dr. Davis how he chose to become a family physician. He stated, “Throughout medical school, I just loved being in clinic no matter which specialty it was. I truly enjoyed just sitting down and talking with my patients, getting to know them, sharing stories, laughing etc. I believe the best medical care is delivered when a patient learns to trust you and builds a relationship with you outside of simply the ‘medicine’”.

Dr. Davis talked about his plans after residency, “I plan on continuing to practice in New Orleans as an outpatient physician in a primary care clinic. Although, I have enjoyed hospital medicine more than I thought I would, so time will tell!” He described his “5-year plan as, “I see myself here in New Orleans still with my fiancé, Lexi, and golden retriever, Phoebe. Hopefully with one or two children, maybe even another dog, and part owner of a beach house or ski property!” Away from clinic and the hospital, he
loves the outdoors and is an avid fisherman. He enjoys being out on the water and away from technology.
