February Monthly Webinars thumbnail 01The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians cordially invites you to attend a webinar entitled, "It's Time to Train Family Physicians as First Responders Against Human Trafficking" held live online.  This webinar is scheduled for February 27, 2024 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm.    

Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize red flags of human trafficking among patients in outpatient setting.
  2. Identify patterns in patient behaviors that increase risk for human trafficking.
  3. Formulate management plans for human trafficking victims by using the social-ecological model.
  4. Apply concepts of training to patients in outpatient setting with focus on identifying victims with screening protocols and developing management plans.
  5. Relate the effects of human trafficking on physical and mental health

About the Speaker:

Dr. Esha Sharma is originally from Mumbai, India and attended medical school at K.J. Somaiya Medical College in Mumbai affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. She is Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport and practices in Monroe, Louisiana. Dr. Sharma also holds a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree with Epidemiology/Biostatistics specialization from Washington University in St. Louis. She completed a Masters Research Fellowship in Psychiatric Epidemiology at Washington University and internship in Chronic Disease Epidemiology at St. Louis County Health Department. Dr. Sharma completed her residency training at Baptist Memorial Medical Education - Family Medicine residency program in Memphis, TN and is Board Certified in Family Medicine. She has served as a volunteer physician in a welfare home for children that worked towards preventing second generation human trafficking in Mumbai, India. Dr. Sharma’s academic and research interests include understanding the behavioral aspect of chronic diseases and promoting preventative medicine. Her personal interests include stain glass painting, traveling and watching horror and thriller movies.
