The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP) is proud to honor Carl E. McLemore, Jr., MD as the 2023 Family Physician of the Year. Dr. McLemore was presented his award on Friday, July 21st during the Award and Installation Ceremony.
This award recognizes Dr. McLemore’s years of service to his patients, his dedication to Family Medicine and his contributions to developing and improving the profession for future physicians and their patients. Letters of endorsement were received from colleagues and patients, all of whom have significant knowledge of Dr. McLemore’s commitment to Family Medicine.
Dr. McLemore has been in practice for over 40 years in a rural community. He received his medical degree from LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, La. Upon completion of his family practice residency, he began a private practice in 1978. Currently, he is an active staff member of Pointe Coupee General Hospital in New Roads, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians, and is Board Certified in family medicine. He is a preceptor for Tulane University Medical Students and Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University Physician Assistant students. Becoming a physician and pursuing medicine was what he wanted to do from an early age, where he was influenced by family doctors that he knew. He enjoys treating patients in his small town of Pointe Coupee Parish.
