IJEOMA AMANZE MD 01The LAFP is excited to announce that resident member and LAFP Alternate Delegate to the AAFP National Conference, Ijoma Amanze, MD, has been elected as the Resident Delegate to the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD) Board of Directors.

Dr. Amanze is a second-year resident the LSUHSC Monroe Family Medicine program. She was born and raised in Nigeria. She obtained her bachelor’s degrees in medical sciences and medicine and surgery from the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry. During her time in medical school, she served as an executive member of the medical students’ association and was actively involved in the activities of the association. She is currently a Family Medicine resident at LSUHSC Monroe Family Medicine Program. Dr. Amanze is passionate about health advocacy and service to the community.

During the 2023 AAFP Resident Congress of Delegates, Dr. Amanze accepted the nomination to serve as the resident delegate to the AFMRD and was elected from the slate of four other resident member nominees. As part of her responsibilities, Dr. Amanze will inform and provide a resident perspective to program directors on environmental issues impacting residents and their education. She will also gain non-profit board leadership experience and mentoring from established leaders in family medicine.

The Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD) was formed in 1990 with the goal to inspire and empower family medicine residency program directors to achieve excellence family medicine residency training. Since its inception, the organization has been devoted to the representation of family medicine program directors and has grown from representing 20 residency programs, to representing more than 600.

The LAFP and the Monroe FMRP are thrilled to have Dr. Amanze serve at the national level. We extend congratulations to Dr. Amanze!
