Jayesh Madrecha headshot 01Jayesh Madrecha, DO is originally from the Chicago area, where he completed both his medical school and residency training in the suburbs. He graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University and completed his residency at what is now UChicago Medicine AdventHealth La Grange, where he served as Chief Resident in his third year. He moved to Louisiana to join his wife, Lisa, who is a transplant pharmacist at Ochsner - Jefferson Highway. Dr. Madrecha currently practices in Kenner at the Ochsner Driftwood Clinic.

Dr. Madrecha practices fairly full spectrum primary care, caring for patients of all ages, from newborns to grandparents. He also provides joint injections, performs Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), and has been trying to expand PrEP prescribing in our region. Beyond his clinical practice, he has been involved in teaching medical students since 2018. His passion for teaching and supporting the next generation of family physicians led to his nomination as FMIG advisor by Dr. Sheth, the previous FMIG advisor.

Dr. Madrecha lives in New Orleans with his wife, their 18-month-old son, and four-year-old dog. We asked him what he considers qualities all family physicians should have. He stated, “I believe that one of the most essential qualities for a family physician is being an active listener. Often, our patients will provide us with the answers if we can take the time to listen and ask the right questions. Throughout my career, I’ve built strong relationships by listening, which is reflected in the number of families I care for.  To me, there is nothing more rewarding than having a patient trust you enough to send you their parent, child, grandchild, or other family member.”

We asked Dr. Madrecha about work-life balance. He stated, “Family Medicine can be challenging, but I’m fortunate to work with a supportive team, led by Dr. Mollere, who consistently advocates for us. Engaging in different areas, such as teaching and recruiting, keeps my work dynamic and fulfilling. I’m also grateful for my supportive wife, who understands the demands of healthcare and steps in when I’m working late or traveling for recruitment.”

Outside of work, Dr. Madrecha enjoys running and taking spin classes. He continued talking more about what he does away from the office, “Finding time for exercise has been more challenging in recent years. I love traveling, and my wife and I recently returned from a 12-day trip to Japan, while my parents took care of our son. I also cherish time with my family, and I’m always trying to persuade our dog, Shirley, to join me for a run—even in the hot New Orleans summers. I also love the New Orleans Pelicans, and you can find me at a game or at Pelicans event, many times during the season.”

Help us congratulate Dr. Jayesh Madrecha as our January Member of the Month!
