The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians cordially invites you to attend a CME presentation titled, “Palliative Care Update for Family Physicians.”

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review palliative care and hospice definitions.
  2. Provide an overview of living wills, LaPOST documents and DNR orders.
  3. Provide a current legal update and MAiD overview.
  4. Discuss best practices for physicians to initiate difficult conversations with patients and families.
  5. Review symptom management strategies for patients in primary palliative care.

About the Speaker:

Danielle McMechan, MD is a hospital medicine specialist in Baton Rouge, LA and has over 10 years of experience.  She completed her Doctor of Medicine at Ross University School of Medicine located in Dominica in 2013. She then completed her family medicine residency at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.  She is the inaugural fellow at the LSU Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship, graduating June 2024 and staying on as faculty with the fellowship program. She is also Medical Director with Hospice of Baton Rouge since January 2024. She, her husband and son have been in Baton Rouge since 2021. She is affiliated with Our Lady of The Lake Regional Medical Center.  Dr. McMechan is passionate about all aspects of healthcare.

The AAFP has reviewed 2024 MONTHLY WEBINAR/GRAND ROUNDS SCHEDULE and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Terms of approval is from 01/24/2024 to 01/24/2025.
