May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is excited to share that it has updated its Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders (SUD) content on its website.

The content updates are part of the CMS broader Behavior Health Strategy and will make it easier for users to access mental health and SUD information.
The CMS Behavioral Health Strategy translates CMS’ goals into a framework focused on outcomes and focuses on three key areas:

  1. SUD prevention, treatment, and recovery services
  2. Ensuring effective pain treatment and management
  3. Improving mental healthcare and services.

You can find more information on CMS’ Behavioral Health Strategy and its mission to ensure that high-quality behavioral health services and supports are accessible to the people we serve, on its website.

Make it a point to check in with your loved ones during Mental Health Awareness Month and participate in Prevention Week, May 12-18, which promotes positive mental health and preventing substance use. You never know what someone else is going through until you ask. For resources and support, visit the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s website to explore your options, where you can find 24/7 crisis counseling, confidential treatment referral, and more.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call, text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 911 if you’re in an immediate crisis.
