The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians is proud to announce the 2024-2025 elected student and resident delegates! We are one of the few professional membership organizations that actively recruits and involves our resident and student members to leadership roles. Our delegate positions are nominated from our student and resident membership and then voted on by the student and resident members. The LAFP values our resident and student members.

ALEX ROBERTSON, MD

Kenner Family Medicine Residency Program
Dr. Robertson is a Louisiana native, born and raised in Baton Rouge. He graduated from Louisiana State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Business Administration. He then earned his MD from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He couples matched in New Orleans with his wife, Melynda, who is a Tulane Internal Medicine resident. Currently, Dr. Robertson serves as a Co-Chief Resident at LSU Family Medicine program in Kenner and has been chosen to serve as the Chief Resident for the 2024-2025 year. His passion is humanizing medicine which is evident as he's been inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. In addition to primary care, his clinical interest includes sports medicine which combines his love for sports with medicine. His hobbies include all things sports, refereeing basketball, cooking, eating, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
SAAD HANAN, MD

Alexandria Family Medicine Residency Program
Dr. Hanan is from Canada with a passion for community service and health advocacy. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Brock University St. Catherine's, Canada and pursued his MD at Saint James School of Medicine in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. As the former President of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) chapter of Saint Vincent, he organized numerous health fairs and outreach programs, emphasizing community empowerment through education. Dr. Hanan believes in the importance of family medicine physicians in communities and advocating for positive changes as leaders. Dr. Hanan's commitment extends beyond medicine. He is an avid sports enthusiast, finding relaxation in basketball, soccer, and pickle-ball. His multifaceted approach to life underscores his belief in holistic well-being, combining medical expertise with community engagement and personal interests.
KACY HENWOOD

LSUHSC – New Orleans
Ms. Henwood is originally from rural Colorado. She attended Tulane University and obtained a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a minor in Public Health. She is a medical student in the class of 2025 at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. On campus, she is active in the Family Medicine Interest Group and on the Team Up Student committee, which improves the interprofessional course curriculum for the Health Sciences Center. Also, she is in cohort 5 of the Southeast AHEC Scholars Program to learn more about social determinants of health. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time outdoors, doing embroidery, listening to podcasts, and watching movies.

Mr. Waite is a rising fourth year medical student at LSU Health Shreveport. He was born and raised in Covington, Louisiana before receiving a degree in Biology with a minor in Philosophy from Spring Hill College. Landon has chosen Family Medicine because he values the ability to establish long-term relationships with patients, desires to treat a wide variety of patients and conditions and believes in the impact family physicians can have on the community level. His interests include full-spectrum family medicine, sports medicine, and preventative medicine. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, cooking, and spending time with his friends & family.

RANA KHAZENDAR, MD

Alexandria Family Medicine Residency Program
Dr. Khazendar is from Houston, Texas. She is currently a first-year resident physician at LSU Health Shreveport Family Medicine Residency Program in Alexandria. Dr. Khazendar earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Texas. She received her medical degree from Windsor University School of Medicine. During medical school, she participated in a wellness buddy program and volunteered as a pediatric hospital sitter in her free time. She is passionate about health advocacy and awareness. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling to new places and spending time with her family and friends.
BRIAN DOSS, MD, MPH

Emergency Medicine/Family Medicine Residency Program – Shreveport
Dr. Doss was raised on a horse farm in small-town Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. While there, he was an active member and eventual Secretary of the Lone Star Rocky Club, a regional horse club dedicated to promoting the Rocky Mountain Horse. He then received his Doctor of Medicine from University of Texas Health Science Cetner at San Antonio and Master of Public Health from University of Texas Health Science Cetner at Houston. While in medical school, he co-founded a student organization that taught CPR to community organizations. He then joined the Emergency Medicine/Family Medicine Program at LSU Health Shreveport, where he is a current PGY-4. In residency, his love of full spectrum family medicine was entrenched, and he has been actively working to improve his skills in Labor and Delivery as well as Endoscopy. His goal is to practice full-spectrum family medicine in a rural setting. He loves spending time with his wife and son, and doing a wide variety of activities, from being active in his church to remodeling his house. He is very passionate about supporting his co-residents and teaching others what he has learned. He is proud and excited to be representing Louisiana residents at the LAFP General Assembly.

MICHAEL CRICK

Mr. Crick is a second-year medical student at Tulane University School of Medicine. Michael is from Baton Rouge and graduated from the LSU Honors College in 2022 with a B.S. in Kinesiology. He played college Ultimate while at LSU and completed his honors thesis on health-related fitness. Michael is passionate about primary care, sports medicine, and public health. While at Tulane he has served as the president of the Family Medicine and Sports Medicine Interest Groups. Michael is in the combined MD/MPH program receiving both his Medical Doctorate and Master of Public Health. “My goal is to be a caring family doctor that uses health-related fitness research and public health initiatives to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles in our communities.”

MATTHEW GEORGE, MD

Family Medicine Residency Program – Shreveport
Dr. George was born and raised in Farmerville, Louisiana and went on to obtain his undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University. For three years after college, he worked at Louisiana Pain Care/ArkLaMiss Surgery Center in Monroe, eventually taking the role as Senior Financial Analyst. He was then accepted to medical school in 2018 at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. During the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to medical school, he volunteered frequently with the medical school-affiliated vaccination task force and vaccinated hundreds of individuals. In his final year of medical school, he worked significantly with the Ochsner Helping Hands program, acting in various patient-facing roles in the hospital. Currently, he is a PGY-II at the LSUHS Shreveport and particularly enjoys providing: care for individuals with HIV, access to HIV PrEP/PEP as well as the Family Medicine Residency Program LGBTQ+ community; he is active in clinical research for these topics. Matt resides in Shreveport with his partner, Jacob and enjoys traveling, hiking and connecting with his community and friends.
EMILY OSTRANDER, MD

Dr. Ostrander is a Pennsylvania native. She obtained her degree in Environmental Health Sciences from Western Carolina University then a master’s degree in biotechnology from Duquesne University before attending American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. During her time in college, she served as an active member in a variety of clubs and attended many events for recruitment and research. Currently, she is a resident in the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program with a passion for both inpatient and outpatient medicine. Dr. Ostrander is looking forward to serving as an advocate for Louisiana and the field of Family Medicine. Hobbies outside of work include spending time with friends and family, playing with her corgi, and hiking in the mountains of North Carolina where her family now resides.
