The Family Medicine Discovers (FMD) Rapid Cycle Scientific Discovery and Innovation (RapSDI) program, funded by the AAFP Foundation in collaboration with the DARTNet Institute, gives practicing family physicians the chance to lead short-term, high-impact research projects—no prior research experience required.
Selected FMD RapSDI Scholars will receive mentorship and support to:
- Develop a research protocol
- Conduct project activities and analyze data
- Participate in research conferences
- Publish in a peer-reviewed journal.
Two physicians will be selected as 2026 Scholars, each awarded $40,000 for project costs and/or salary offset.
Round 1 applications are due Friday, January 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CT. Eligible members can submit theirs online today.
