The LAFP is excited to announce that Sodiq Adebeshin, MBBS, Chief Resident, LSU Shreveport Rural Family Medicine Residency Program, has been awarded the AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education. 

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education (AEGME) recognizes 12 outstanding second-year family medicine residents nationwide each year. The award honors residents who demonstrate excellence in leadership, community involvement, academic achievement, patient care, and commitment to the specialty of family medicine.

The award is selected from a highly competitive national pool of eligible second-year family medicine residents across the United States. Historical estimates have placed the eligible resident pool at approximately 3,500 or more residents nationwide, making this a highly competitive national recognition.

Selection criteria include demonstrated leadership in the residency program, a commitment to addressing community health needs, a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and building strong working relationships with fellow residents, faculty and staff. 

Dr. Adebeshin was recommended by Luke Baudin, MD, Program Director, for the award.  Dr. Adebeshin is currently serving as Chief Resident for the LSU Shreveport Rural Family Medicine Residency Program.  He received his medical degree from University of Lagos College of Medicine (MBBS/MD) and holds a Master of Business Administration.  Dr. Adebeshin has served as a Resident Delegate for the LAFP at the AAFP Future Conference.
