Applications are now open for the AAFP Foundation’s Family Medicine Leads (FM Leads) Emerging Leader Institute (ELI). The program is focused on training student and family medicine resident leaders to help strengthen the future of the specialty.

During this year-long program, scholars will participate in learning and leadership development opportunities, complete a project related to a selected leadership track, attend FUTURE and the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute, and have access to an AAFP family physician mentor. Each scholar will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help cover the cost of attending FUTURE and the ELI.

Following FUTURE, the selected participants will attend the FM Leads ELI (Saturday-Sunday, August 1-2) in-depth workshops in one of three leadership tracks: Policy & Public Health, Personal & Practice, and Philanthropic & Mission-Driven. The weekend concludes with a Project Management session.

Program eligibility:

  • AAFP student members in their second, third, or fourth year of medical school
  • AAFP resident members in their first or second year of residency.

Applications are due Sunday, March 1. For additional information and to apply, visit the AAFP Foundation website.
