picture3We are so excited to congratulate Ryunosuke Hisatomi, MD, PGY 3 with the LSU Health Shreveport Family Medicine Residency Program for being selected to receive the 2025 AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education. He was selected based off of his performance during residency training placing him among the top family medicine residents. The American Academy of Family Physicians and the Commission on Membership and Member Services acknowledged his hard work and dedication to the principles of family medicine. As an award recipient, he will receive a $2,500 scholarship from the American Academy of Family Physicians, in recognition of his leadership, civic involvement, patient care, and dedication to family medicine. He will also be honored at the 2025 AAFP’s Family Medicine Experience in Anaheim, CA.

Dr. Hisatomi is originally from Tokyo and Okinawa, Japan, he earned his MD from the University of the Ryukyus.  In 2019 and moved to Shreveport after gaining clinical and academic experience in Japan. Academically, he has authored several case reports that have been published or presented at national conferences.  He has also contributed to a textbook chapter. His current research efforts involve ongoing research on heat stress in firefighters in collaboration with Dr. Coehoorn.
