This year, more than 5,300 medical students and graduates received the news that they will be part of the next generation of family physicians, positioned to improve patient outcomes and address the primary care workforce shortage. 

Over 800 family medicine residency programs offered over 5,300 positions, making it the largest offering the specialty has seen. This indicates growing momentum for family medicine as a specialty.

The AAFP celebrates the continued growth of family medicine by welcoming all medical students and graduates who matched. An AAFP News article and press release published on Match Day quotes AAFP CEO and EVP, Shawn Martin, and President Jen Brull, MD, FAAFP, celebrating these results and emphasizing the importance of continuing to champion family medicine for healthier communities everywhere.
