fpoy 2026 thumbnailThe Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP) is proud to honor Dr. Byron Jasper as the 2026 Family Physician of the Year.  Dr. Jasper was presented his award on Friday, July 24th during the Award and Installation Ceremony. 

This award recognizes Dr. Jasper’s years of service to his patients, his dedication to Family Medicine and his contributions to developing and improving the profession for future physicians in Louisiana. Letters of endorsement were received from colleagues and patients, all of whom have significant knowledge of Dr. Jasper’s commitment to Family Medicine.

Dr. Jasper is from Houma, LA, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Byja Clinic and a proud alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana. He earned his medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine, complemented by a master’s degree from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He went on to complete his family medicine residency at Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program.  He is board certified in Family Medicine and furthered his expertise with fellowships in Community Health Leadership Development at Georgetown University School of Medicine and HIV and Hepatitis C care at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC.

In addition to his clinical work, he is the author of the widely praised book Byja Blueprint: An Introductory Guide to Direct Primary Care for Doctors, Patients, and Businesses. The book has received numerous positive reviews for its insightful and accessible exploration of the Direct Primary Care model, resonating with both healthcare professionals and patients alike. His dedication to community health and educational leadership is further reflected in his roles as the founder of two highly impactful nonprofit organizations: Comprehensive Medical Mentoring Program (CMMP) and Byja Charitable Alliance (BCA). He serves as National President of CMMP, an organization committed to empowering minority students pursuing careers into health-professional fields, and as President of BCA, which aims to enhance public health in vulnerable communities by reducing health disparities and promoting healthy lifestyles.
