The FMIG at LSU Health New Orleans held the first meeting of the semester on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Over 40 students attended the meeting to learn more about being a member of the FMIG, meet the leaders and hear from a panel of faculty and residents about “Why Family Medicine is FUN, VALUED and REWARDING.”
Representatives from the following programs answered questions about how they chose Family Medicine, what a typical day looks like, and what each love about Family Medicine:
- DePaul – Thomas Santamaria, MD, Associate Program Director
- East Jefferson – Caila Knighton, MD, PGY 3
- Lake Charles - Kai Ackley MD, PGY-3, Chief Resident and Zachary Lazaridis DO, PGY-1
- LSU Department of Family Medicine – Pam Wiseman, MD, Associate Clinical Professor
- St. Tammany/Ochsner - Ashlin Hinojosa MD, PGY2 and Lauren Carney, MD, PGY 1
Lunch was provided by the LAFP Foundation. LAFP staff member, Lee Ann Albert, provided an overview of the LAFP and encouraged students to join the Academy.
