The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) is hosting a two-part webinar series designed to help family medicine residents and new physicians better understand the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) certification journey, from residency requirements through the first five-year certification cycle.
Family physician members are encouraged to share these opportunities with residents, new physicians, residency program leaders, and colleagues who may benefit from practical guidance on certification timelines, requirements, assessment options, and common pitfalls.
Each 60-minute session will feature ABFM expertise, OAFP member moderation, and peer perspectives to help participants reduce confusion, build confidence, and develop strategies for staying organized throughout the certification process.
Webinar 1, ABFM Foundations: What Every Family Medicine Resident Needs to Know, was held on September 22 and introduced residents to the role and purpose of ABFM certification, key residency-related requirements and timelines, and practical ways to stay organized throughout training.
Webinar 2: Starting Strong: ABFM Certification & Your First Five-Year Cycle
Date and Time: Monday, December 14, at 7 p.m.
Audience: Physicians graduating residency in Summer 2026 and physicians preparing for their first five-year certification cycle
This session will help new physicians understand the structure of the ABFM’s continuous certification, identify key requirements and deadlines, explore available assessment pathways, and build a practical plan for balancing certification activities with early-career responsibilities.
