The prestigious American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education honors a select number of commendable residents for their exemplary patient care; their interpersonal relationships with patients, physicians, and faculty; and their demonstrated leadership and community involvement.
Since its founding in 1951, more than 1,000 second-year resident recipients have received this distinguished honor. Here’s why you should apply to be among them:
- Highly selective: Each year, the AAFP selects 12 outstanding residents from a national pool of top candidates.
- Recognizes excellence: The selection committee evaluates applicants on leadership, academic achievement, patient care, and community contributions.
- Financial support: Recipients receive a $2,500 scholarship, plus three nights of hotel accommodations, airfare, and registration for the FMX, the AAFP’s premier event for family medicine, set for Tuesday-Saturday, October 20-24, in Nashville, TN.
- National recognition: The AAFP elevates recipients’ professional profiles, providing significant distinction among peers, mentors, and potential employers.
AAFP resident members in their 2nd year of training at an ACGME-approved family medicine residency who are eligible to practice family medicine in the United States may apply. Applications are due Wednesday, May 27.
