The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians cordially invites you to attend a CME presentation titled, “Evaluating the Role and Impact of Primary Care Providers on the Treatment of Patients With Moderate-to-Severe Asthma.”  This activity is supported by an independent educational grant from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc and Sanofi.

Learning Objectives

1.  Define high intensity treatment in patients with asthma.
2.  Utilize clinical indicators to assess or refer patients for escalation of asthma therapy including add-on biologics.
3.  Analyze efficacy and safety data of available biologics for the treatment of asthma.
4.  Apply recommendation for biomarker testing in evaluation of patients with asthma.
5.  Implement strategies for effective management of patients with asthma with biologic therapies in collaboration with asthma specialists.

Program Faculty

Nicola (Nick) A. Hanania, MD, MS

Dr. Hanania is Professor of Medicine in the Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and director of the Airways Clinical Research Center at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He also serves on the Executive Faculty Senate as the Clinical Science Representative at Baylor College of Medicine. He is the Chief of Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Ben Taub Hospital. He completed his medical training at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada. He subsequently completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, where he later earned a master’s degree in clinical investigation.

Dr Hanania is fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, European Respiratory Society and American Thoracic Society. He has received multiple awards, including the ACCP’s Distinguished Scholar in Respiratory Health, Baylor College of Medicine Master Clinician Award, ACCP distinguished CHEST educator (DCE), ACCP Humanitarian Award, Fulbright and Jaworski’s Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching and Evaluation, and the Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He is editor-in-chief of Respiratory Medicine and is associate editor of the journal Lung. He serves on the editorial board of Chest, and COPD (J of COPD Foundation). Dr Hanania’s research interests focus on the pharmacology and management of asthma and COPD. He has published more than 320 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, editorials, and reviews on these topics. His research has been funded by NIH, ALA and industry and focuses on clinical trials investigating novel treatments. He is principal investigator for the American Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Center and COPD Gene study at Baylor College of Medicine, as well as principal investigator or co-investigator in several clinical trials in asthma and COPD. Dr Hanania has been invited and has lectured widely at local, regional, national, and international meetings.

The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians cordially invites you to attend a CME presentation titled, “From Screening to Support: Practical M-CHAT-R/F Implementation.”  This presentation will equip family medicine clinicians with practical strategies to enhance the quality and impact of autism screening in early childhood. Attendees will explore evidence-based approaches to M-CHAT-R/F (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, Revised with Follow-Up) use, including correct administration, scoring, and follow-up to ensure timely identification of children at risk for autism spectrum disorder. The session will outline clear pathways to referrals, including how and when to connect families to EarlySteps, Title V programs, and local diagnostic resources. Participants will also learn clinic-ready tools, workflow strategies, and communication techniques to support families when a child screens positive - while minimizing added burden on visits.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand standardized Autism screening to help identify developmental delays and Autism earlier.
2. Understand administering and interpreting the M-Chat-RIF (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, Revised with Follow-Up) during well-child visits.
3. Understand referral pathways available for patients.
4. Understand the development of a patient care plan to ensure parental/caregiver education as well as the necessary documentation required for timely referrals.

Kaylee Hall is the Grant Coordinator for Project SOAR (Screen Often and Accurately Refer) with the Bureau of Family Health’s Family and Community Systems Team at the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health. She supports policy and systems-level strategies to strengthen early childhood developmental screening, referral, and follow-up across pediatric and community settings. Kaylee began her career at the Bureau in 2016 as a practice-based Care Coordinator and brings a strong background in provider and family engagement to her systems improvement work. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education from the University of Florida and a Master of Public Health from LSU Health Sciences Center with a concentration in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences.
